"You must purge the evil from among you."
(I have worked around commercial and industrial fired equipment for many years, purging is an extremely important part of the process of operating fired equipment, the entire air space in the combustion chamber, all the way to the top of the stack must be purged at least four times over before introducing a small pilot flame and an ignition source or spark. If the system is not properly purged, and it is full of fuel, especially gas, when the spark is energized, an extremely violent explosion will occur, and buildings have been destroyed and people been seriously injured and even lost their lives when it happens.
I went searching for the word purge this morning as I came across it in the Psalms yesterday, in the King James Version:
Psalms 79:9
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name:
and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.
In the New International version the word isn't used in Psalm 79, but when I found the exact same phrase in Dueteronomy seven times, I felt I had to pray about purging away our sins.)
Good morning, Lord, please purge away our sins, for Your name's sake, and so that we may live such good lives that people cannot help but notice (I Peter). Thank You for giving us the opportunity to have awareness of our sins, please help us see clearly how sin is affecting our lives and the lives of others, and help us purge our lives of our sins, we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
